Frequently Asked Questions

What is 18k black gold?

Black gold is relatively rare and less commonly seen compared to other gold colours. LEEF uses 18k black gold for our Black Series products. The "18k" indicates the purity of the gold alloy, with "18" representing 18 karats, which means it is composed of 75% pure gold mixed with other metals. To achieve the black colour, the surface of the gold alloy is often treated with a black rhodium plating or a black ruthenium coating. These treatments create the black appearance while still maintaining the underlying strength and durability of the gold alloy. Black gold provides a striking and contemporary aesthetic that can enhance the overall design and appearance of the piece.

What causes the black colour in black diamond?

Unlike other coloured diamonds that owe their hues to chemical elements or structural defects, black diamonds are unique in their opaque, dark appearance. The high concentration of these dark inclusions within the diamond absorbs most of the incoming light, resulting in a black or near-black colour. The black colour in the diamond is caused by minerals within the diamond’s structure including graphite, pyrite, hematite, or other mineral traces. The presence of different minerals and their arrangement can contribute to variations in their colour intensity and appearance. Black diamonds offer a unique option for those seeking jewellery that stands out and makes a bold statement.

Are the gemstones of LEEF natural or lab grown?

LEEF only uses natural gemstones, we treasure the historical significance, provenance, and scarcity of natural gemstones.

How long will it take to receive the jewellery after placing an order?

As our jewellery items are made-to-order, customers shall receive their orders in four to five weeks.

How should I care for and clean the jewellery?

Store your jewellery in a clean, dry, and preferably lined jewellery box or pouch to prevent scratching and damage. Avoid storing different types of jewellery together, as they can scratch each other.
For cleaning diamonds and gemstones, use a soft toothbrush with mild soapy water to gently scrub the stones, rinse the piece thoroughly and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
For cleaning gold parts, simply use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or a jewellery polishing cloth to gently wipe the metal surfaces.
